    WHITE MOUNTAIN

As rain clouds from a nighttime deluge dissipated the next morning, we hiked beneath the chalky cliffs of the mountain the ranchers call "White", opalescent against the blue gray sky over the Davis Mts of Far West Texas. I snapped an iPhone photo of White Mountain posing against the dramatic sky, then rushed back to my studio and began painting.

My goal was not to lose the light of the mountain, so even though the foreground is extremely detailed and the clouds are bright, the chert-lined mountain glows a greeting to the viewer.

      COOK  SEVERNS

      Big Bend Artist

      Old Spanish Trail Studio

Big Bend Artist Lindy Cook Severns, a seventh generation Texan,  paints real places in the wild American west, the high desert ranch lands of Far West Texas and Big Bend country.  Lindy's paintings hang in most every state in the USA, and in collections in England, Australia, Germany and Canada.  The pastel landscape artist | oil painter is among 35 artists selected for inclusion in the definitive book TEXAS TRADITIONS, CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS OF THE LONE STAR STATE, Michael Duty and Susan Hallsten McGarry, 2010.

Featured in the national 2016 PBS documentary WESTERN PERSPECTIVE, the southwest landscape painter lives on a working ranch in the Davis Mountains near Ft Davis and Marfa with husband Jim, a stubbornly affectionate rescued terrier and a cranky African Grey parrot who passionately loves art.  Her studio sits across the road from Old Spanish Trail Gallery and Museum, where Lindy is the Artist-In-Residence.
