"Texas Blues"

Bluebonnets unabashedly carpet central Texas and Hill Country each spring. You often see scarlet spikes of Indian Paintbrush scattered in a mass of bluebonnets. As a child, I believed Native Americans used both the blue and scarlet spikes of Texas wildflowers to paint with. Now, I joyfully use all those different colors of blue and red to share our Texas springtime. In painting this large pastel, I consciously mirror-imaged the contours of the clouds in sweep of the wildflowers and grasses across the foreground. It's a subtle way of connecting the land to the big Texas sky.

    COOK  SEVERNS

    Big Bend Artist

Big Bend Artist Lindy Cook Severns, a seventh generation Texan,  paints real places in the wild American west, the high desert ranch lands of Far West Texas and Big Bend country.  Lindy's paintings hang in most every state in the USA, and in collections in England, Australia, Germany and Canada.  The pastel landscape artist | oil painter is among 35 artists selected for inclusion in the definitive book TEXAS TRADITIONS, CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS OF THE LONE STAR STATE, Michael Duty and Susan Hallsten McGarry, 2010.

Featured in the national 2016 PBS documentary WESTERN PERSPECTIVE, the southwest landscape painter lives on a working ranch in the Davis Mountains near Ft Davis and Marfa with husband Jim, a stubbornly affectionate rescued terrier and a cranky African Grey parrot who passionately loves art.  Her studio sits across the road from Old Spanish Trail Gallery and Museum, where Lindy is the Artist-In-Residence.
