"RIDING THE RED DAWN"
Los Caballos near Marathon, Texas
A rainy dawn on Los Caballos formation in the Ouachita Mountains between Big Bend National Park and Marathon, Texas.
Spanish explorers gave these sparkling-with-quartz and very misplaced mountains their name because they reminded them of horsemen riding in columns across the high desert.
This pastel is one of three Lindy Cook Severns paintings published in TEXAS TRADITIONS, CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS OF THE LONE STAR STATE by Michael Duty and Susan Hallsten McGarry 2010Los Caballos formation in the fragment of the Ouachita Mountains near Marathon, TX
