bristling javelina

original 8" x 10" watercolor

Texas artist Lindy Cook Severns

on acid-free paper

unframed*, matted in an acid-free ivory matboard

fits a readymade 11" x 14" frame (frame not included)

we also include acid-free foam board backing, so Lindy's original wildlife painting is all ready to pop in a frame and hang it on your wall

A clear, resealable bag protects this grumpy javelina until you frame it.

A delightful perk of waking up in the Davis Mountains is wondering what wildlife neighbors I'll encounter over a morning hike or stroll with a cup of coffee. Javelina are often mistaken for wild hogs, but these collared peccaries are actually close cousins of deer. They are almost blind, and their survival depends on their remarkable hearing and sense of smell. They do have sharp tusks, and can be fierce when threatened, but it's impossible not to smile at these grumpy, comical critters when they bristle up to twice their normal size like this. Part of my series of neighborhood critters, "the hood".

Big Bend Artist

Old Spanish Trail Studio

Big Bend Artist Lindy Cook Severns, a seventh generation Texan,  paints real places in the wild American west, the high desert ranch lands of Far West Texas and Big Bend country.  Lindy's paintings hang in most every state in the USA, and in collections in England, Australia, Germany and Canada.  The pastel landscape artist | oil painter is among 35 artists selected for inclusion in the definitive book TEXAS TRADITIONS, CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS OF THE LONE STAR STATE, Michael Duty and Susan Hallsten McGarry, 2010.

Featured in the national 2016 PBS documentary WESTERN PERSPECTIVE, the southwest landscape painter lives on a working ranch in the Davis Mountains near Ft Davis and Marfa with husband Jim, a stubbornly affectionate rescued terrier and a cranky African Grey parrot who passionately loves art.  Her studio sits across the road from Old Spanish Trail Gallery and Museum, where Lindy is the Artist-In-Residence.
