HIGH SUMMER on the RIO GRANDE original pastel

Southern Rockies Summer

Original Lindy Cook Severns pastel landscape study

Soft pastels on archival paper

9" x 12" art is unframed*

Thunderstorms loom over snow-capped Rio Grande peak near Creede, Colorado as the Big River flows through wildflower strewn Rocky Mountain meadows near its headwaters... One of our longtime favorite camping and hiking and canoeing spots!

In painting this high country landscape, I concentrated on using color to pull the viewer toward the distant mountains in an "S" pattern that begins with the bank of yellow flowers in the foreground, then gradually moves up the winding river. The composition and subsequent movement was more important to me than rendering detail, which might've been distracting in this small original study.

  • Unframed Paintings and Drawings

*Purchasing an unframed painting allows you to customize the molding to fit your decor and your budget.

We hinge mount unframed pastels in a raised, protective foam board sandwich case. This is the way we store them in the studio, and take them to the framer. The nifty, lightweight case keeps your art secure during its travels,  allowing you to store and transport your artwork safely and conveniently. To view your new treasure, simply lift the removable tab of tape at the bottom and gently raise the foam lid.

Oil paintings are also shipped with protection on both sides of the artwork, but don't require the spacers we use to keep anything from touching the surface of pastels, drawings and prints.
