Trappings of Texas, the annual Invitational Western Art and Cowboy Gear exhibit and sale opens April 12, 2018 in a flurry of ticketed events in and around Alpine, Texas. The Museum of the Big Bend puts on the dog for their gala coming together of traditional southwest artists, art collectors and those who vicariously roam the range by buying intricately etched silver spurs and braided reatas.

Need a hand-tooled, custom built saddle with sterling trim? This is the place to find one with your name on it. And art? Oh, my. Some great artists show in this exhibit, including Wayne Baize and Tim Oliver, two of my fellow featured artists at Old Spanish Trail Gallery and Museum, the Davis Mts gallery at Crows Nest Ranch outside Ft. Davis, Texas.

I'm certainly no cowboy artist, but I live and paint the lands real cowboys still ride. In my three entries, pastel landscape paintings of my home turf in the Davis Mountains and Rio Grande borderlands, I invite you into the last frontier. My paintings take you to different places in different seasons, but each painting admits you to a vast and lovely world: Welcome to Far West Texas!

Ya'll come back.

Soon, please.

The best things in life are free, and it doesn't cost a penny to look at my southwest landscape paintings from around these parts. (Taking one home with you is a wee bit pricer, but to use another Texas homily, you get what you pay for, and original art offers generations of joy.)

For event tickets and times, visit the Museum of the Big Bend Trappings of Texas site. The 2018 art show opens to the public on April 16 and runs thru Memorial Day weekend, and admission is free. (You'll get a lot more than you pay for when you visit this little gem of a West Texas museum.)
