Rain from towering summer storms paints the high desert's Davis Mountains so green, they seem to be growing pastures of sparkling emeralds. These flirting patches of irregular light across mountains draped in distant curtains of rain are iconic scenes in a Far West Texas summer.
This is a heavily underpainted pastel, a process of adding broken layers of color over existing color, which gives the finished pastel landscape painting an inner glow.
