West Texas Artist Lindy Cook Severns has been drawing flowers and plants all her life. Her grandmother, an avid Houston gardener, passed on her passion for blossoms and leaves and bark. Studying botany at Texas Tech added depth to Lindy's love of plants.

The Big Bend Artist delights in discovering flowers tucked away in the Chihuahuan Desert and the hardy plants of high country of the Davis Mountains.

Lindy Severns flower drawings are often done as heavily layered and burnished colored pencils, which lend themselves to expressing color and detail. Her nature paintings in oils and soft pastels are full of life. Many of Lindy's plein air studies are rendered in graphite, ink or pastel pencils. Whatever the medium, botanical art by Lindy Cook Severns shares the lively joy of sprouting, growing and flowering.

We invite you to Pick a bouquet from Lindy's flora collection anytime you visit. (Do be careful of thorns.)

Big Bend Artist

Old Spanish Trail Studio

Big Bend Artist Lindy Cook Severns, a seventh generation Texan,  paints real places in the wild American west, the high desert ranch lands of Far West Texas and Big Bend country.  Lindy's paintings hang in most every state in the USA, and in collections in England, Australia, Germany and Canada.  The pastel landscape artist | oil painter is among 35 artists selected for inclusion in the definitive book TEXAS TRADITIONS, CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS OF THE LONE STAR STATE, Michael Duty and Susan Hallsten McGarry, 2010.

Featured in the national 2016 PBS documentary WESTERN PERSPECTIVE, the southwest landscape painter lives on a working ranch in the Davis Mountains near Ft Davis and Marfa with husband Jim, a stubbornly affectionate rescued terrier and a cranky African Grey parrot who passionately loves art.  Her studio sits across the road from Old Spanish Trail Gallery and Museum, where Lindy is the Artist-In-Residence.
